Girl on a Budget

At the end of 2010 I decided to put a budget in place for my shopping(are you a little surprised that someone who works in finance is only now starting to put a budget in place?).  Some of you may think, why limit yourself, but I think that it will actually help me to build a better wardrobe. I will definitely think before I purchase something useless or very similar to something I already own. I want to build a wardrobe with classic pieces that will stand the test of time(with some trendier ones of course!).

Here are some pics of small purchases I made recently, a white tank that goes with everything, an off the shoulder stripped top and some comfy lounge pants for when I come home from work. Also bought these cute notebooks(to record all my expenses in), one from Marc Jacobs(Breakfast at Bleaker!)and the other with the bohemian girl on the cover.

Do you guys put a budget in place for shopping??  Let me know what you think?

  2. Don't know about writing expenses by hand... the first few entries will be all neat and nice.... after that, I think there will be no entries. Mint.com just opened for Canada and they have an iPhone app. It's really amazing and saves you the hassle of doing data entry as it connects with all banks. I love the idea of the budget, but what's the best way to keep track of the wardrobe? Do you sort by function, colors - also, what's more important: waist up or down? finally, where did you get the comfy lounge pants - they defn look COMFY!

  8. Budget... my definition is the antonym of it! You raised a very good point about not buying useless/similar clothes. I'm guilty as charged. To be honest... it's really my weakness. I thought that by buying cheap clothes, I was saving a lot of $$$ but it ends up that the aggregate sum of all items can be greater than the value of all items ... does that make sense? anyway what I'm saying is that I need some practical tips. Any tangible ones?
